At an overall level, the main responsibility of an Oracle DBA is to provide corporate data to the management of the enterprise. This is the single most important function of an Oracle DBA. Any other function which the Oracle DBA performs is secondary and is in support of this main function. However, Oracle Database Administrator's (DBA's) are also responsible for other areas in the organization. I have listed down some of the core areas Oracle DBA's are responsible for in the organization.
Oracle DBA Responsibilities:
Security: One of the first roles of an Oracle DBA is to ensure that the data and information in the organization are secure. Oracle DBA should ensure that access to data is secure.
Backup: Secondly, an Oracle DBA is responsible for ensuring that database he is handling is backed up at regular intervals. This is ensure that the database is available at all times and can be restored in case of a disaster or security incident.
Performance: Third, an Oracle DBA will be concerned about the performance of his database. He has to ensure that when the database is queried, it turns up with accurate data efficiently. In short the database performance has to be optimized.
Design: It is the Oracle DBA's responsibility to ensure that the database is designed according to the needs and specifications of the organization.
Implementation: The Oracle DBA has to ensure that the database is implemented correctly and interface correctly with the variosu other systems and applications.
