ORACLE GL - MASS MAINTENANCE
ORACLE GL - MASS MAINTENANCE
One of the new changes introduced in Oracle General Ledger 11i is relating to the Mass Maintainence. The function of the Mass Maintenance window is to move or merge GL account balances by specifying the source and the target accounts. Also, a user can use the Mass Creation function to automatically create accounts based on existing accounts. There are limitations in the way accounts can be moved and merged in Oracle GL.
Oracle General Ledger restricts moving and merging accounts across sets of books, balancing segment values, and financial statement categories. Mass Maintenance function does not allow a user to move or merge functions for budget or encumbrance balances and balances of purged accounting periods. Oracle GL does not update the ccounts and account ranges defined for recurring journals, Mass Allocations, consolidation mappings, and summary accounts. Using Mass Maintainence if net income accounts are to be moved or merger, special rules have to be followed. In case of historical rates, if any, they are required to be rebuilt for the target account.
After completing the process of moving and merging audit journals, accounts same are reflected in the Mass Maintenance Execution Report. In case a user has incorrectly moved or merged the account, and is not satisfied with the process, Oracle GL allows one to reverse the entire process of Mass Maintainence. This is howewver possible if the moved / merged tables have not been deleted. In case they are deleted there is no recourse.
