Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 - Company Level Controls Vs. Company Wide Controls

Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 - Company Level Controls Vs. Company Wide Controls

Many companies / consultants / auditors often confuse between Company Level Controls and Company Wide Controls. I am explaining the concept with some examples. Company wide controls are much broader than company level controls. Company wide controls thus include company level controls. They also include controls over processes that are company wide in scope. Thus,

Company Wide Controls = Company Level Controls + Controls over company wide proccesses

Examples of company wide controls are:

- Controls over financial reporting process.

- Controls over Risk assessment processes

- Controls over monitoring results of organizational activities
