Information Tech Glossary - Application Level Gateway

Also called as Application level firewalls. Application level gateway is a type of firewall. Application level firewalls readdress the traffic so that any outgoing traffic from a network appears to have been originated from the application firewall rather than from the internal network. An application gateway thus, initiates a connection on behalf of the user to the internal server. It provides strong authentication and logging since it connects on behalf of the user.
