Information Technology Glossary - Purge or Purging of Sensitive Data
Purging is a term used commonly which means removal of sensitive data from a system. Such removal of sensitive data may be from a system, storage device, harddisk which is normally done once processing is complete. Purging provides assurance that data may not be reconstructed. Befor purging is done, system is normally disconnected from the network. Once purging is complete, a decison can be taken to remove the security classfication for the information.
