Underdeliveries in SAP Inventory Management IM - Concept of Underdeliveries SAP IM

Concept of Underdeliveries in SAP

When the actual goods received are less than the quantity in the order PO, it is called as an underdelivery. SAP allows a partial delivery against an order. However, SAP issues a warning message indicating that the quantity received is less than that in the PO i.e. there is an underdelivery. This is not all. SAP Inventory Management also allows a user to define the tolerances in the total goods receipt. These tolerances are normally defined in percentage terms.

This is how tolerances work. Suppose, a tolerance of 10% is defined. Thus, if order is say for 100 units of a material and actual goods receipt on the order is say 95, SAP would allow the goods receipt GR without any warning message, since the same is within the tolerance defined. On the other hand, actual goods received is 80, SAP would issue a warning message since GR is not within the tolerance which is 90 units lower limit tolerance and 110 which is the upper limit tolerance considering a 10% tolerance defined. Finally, one important aspect of underdelivery is the Final delivery. If the underdelivery is not a partial delivery, but a final delivery, the user has to mark the same in SAP as a "completed delivery". This enables SAP to properly handle such deliveries which are underdeliveries as well as final in nature.
