Basic Data Production Orders SAP PP Production Planning PP - Data Required to Process Production Orders in SAP Production Planning

Recently, in a SAP training being given to users at a manufacturing plant, one of the instructor was asked "what is the data required to process a production order in SAP PP?" Here is a short summary of the important points that came up in the answer. SAP PP uses basic data stored in R/3 system to process production orders. The basic data in SAP PP is used in identifying available capacity, expected capacity usage, calculation of production costs, computing start and finish dates of an order, operation times and scheduling the consumption of materials. For a production order to execute correctly in SAP production planning, certain prerequisites are neccesary. These prerequisites are as follows.

- First, the material status has to be released for production on a cross plant level MARA. Further, material status also needs to be updated at the plant level MARC.
- Routings have to prepared, a special selection procedure can help in selecting the correct routing procedure.
- Material to be manufactured should be available as inhouse production material and should be defined as a procurement type.
- A plant specific view (MRP) should be maintained alongwith accounting and costing views. A single level bill of material BOM should be available.
