Q). How can a SQL trace be used in SAP R/3?
Answer:
A SQL trace records all open, prepare, fetch, execute and actual SQL statements. The SQL trace also gives the duration time for each step in a procedure. SQL trace can be used when the user wants to know from where the system is obtaining information. Users may want this may be just out of curiosity or beacuse of a problem. SAP provides the use of a SQL trace. In SAP, A SQL trace can be initiated by selecting the System menu, choosing Utilities, and then selecting SQL Trace. Transaction code ST05 can also be used to intiate a SQL trace in SAP. Once user has reached the menus given, user should select the button SQL trace and then click on the push button "Trace On". Traces are requested by a users in SAP. Once this is done user can create another session in SAP and carry out the process that requires recording.
System Menu >> Utilities >> SQL Trace >> Trace On (Transaction Code - ST05)
Once this process is over, user can proceed back to the SQL trace session, or back to transaction code [ST05], where the user should select the push button "Trace Off". Now in order to view the trace, user should select the push button List "Trace". Choosing the indicator Show SQL Trace and selecting 'Execute' reveals the results of the trace. SAP defaults all values required for selection automatically.
