In today's complex corporate environment a successful audit requires deploying the right skill sets depending on the type and nature of audit. The audit team of today is no longer limited to just CPA Certified Public
Accountant. Big 4 firms are now finding the need to have enhanced skills sets for their personnel. Since organizations today face a multitude of risks, audit teams need to have specialized members to cater to the
different varieties of risks.

Today's multi disciplinary audit teams consists of hardcore CPA's, tax specialists, information systems auditors, systems and process specialists, ERP auditors, fraud examiners, financial management experts who all are experts in independent auditing in their core fields. Let me explain with a scenario from my firm itself. Pre sarbanes oxley, the audit team invariably consisted of CPA, with some help from tax & IT audit specialists. Today, post sarbanes oxley the scene has changed entirely. for each area we at our firm have a specialist. For smaller forms, it is now time to ramp up thier audit teams. Having the relevant expertise not only helps in getting more business but also builds trust among existing clients. An audit of the highest standards can only be expected if expertise is included in the audit process which preserves the auditor's independence. Multi disciplinary audit teams are a must for success for any accounting firm Big 4 or otherwise.
