General Ledger Accounting Key Oracle Financials GL

Oracle General Ledger is unique in the way it which it identifies general ledger accounts. Accounting key in oracle GL consist of six numerical segments seperated by decimals. Each segment of the account key helps in uniquely tracking a particular general ledger account in Oracle General Ledger. The six numerical segments of the account key are shown below.

For explanation purposes, here's an example of oracle accounting key: A small explanation of each segment is provided below.

GL Account Segment ACCT - In the accounting key above, 2100576 represents the account segment which is the first segment in the GL account key. The ACCT account segment identifies the primary activity for which money is being spent.

GL Sub Account Segment SUB - The SUB account segment is used to further track activities, tasks or time periods within a particular account. This is represented as 000 in our accounting key above.

GL Balancing Segment BAL - The balancing segment BAL consists of nine digits. This represents the level at which an organization chosses to carry it balance sheet. This is represented as 234500000 in our example above.

GL Organization Segment ORG - This represents the organizational unit which has the primary fiscal responsibility for the account. This is shown in our example as 432200000.

GL Future Segment - The future segment of the oracle accounting key has been included to take care of any future segmenting or classification needs that an organization may have. The FUT segment key is of four digits 0000 and always defaults to this value when oracle general ledger is implemented.

GL Object Code Segment OBJ - The final segment of the accounting key is the object code segment. This is used for account classification and categorizes the account as either asset, revenue, expenditure etc.
