BS 15000 IT Service Management Overview

BS 15000 IT Service Management Overview

BS 15000 is a standard for IT service management. BS 15000 lays down
guidelines for effective delivery of services to business and its
customers. BS 15000 consists of two parts. Part I of the British standard 15000-1 which was issued in 2002 lays down the formal specification for delivering services of acceptable quality to its customers. Part II of the standard BS 15000-2 was issued in 2003 and talks about the code of practice for IT service management. Here's a brief description of part I and II of the standard:

BS 15000-1:2002 Formal Specification - This defines the requirements
for a management system. Specfically, Part I of the BS 1500 provides
guidance on planning and implementing new and changed services, service
delivery processes, relationship processes, resoultion, control and
release processes.

BS 15000-2:2003 Code of Practice - Simply speaking, the code of
practice defines the best practices for service management. Organizations who are going to be audited against the service level standard laid down in Part I should use the code of practice in making improvement in their processes and planning long term improvements.
