SAP xApp Analytics Beginner's Guide

SAP xApp Analytics is a composite analytic application. Xapps is based on the SAP NetWeaver platform and is unique in the way it handles analytics. XApps leverages access to data in an integrated way so as to enable actions and insights on data seamlessly in one environment. SAP xApps is all about providing the SAP end user with the ability to make decisions based on factual data. In other words, SAP xApps provides analytical capabilities to users down to the lowest level. The end user can utilize the insight back into the business process to make it more eficient and lower the business risks.

If any of you attended SAPPHIRE '06 in Orlando, the session on SAP xApps had a slide which mentioned what exactly SAP xApps does. The text in the slide read as follows:

"Intelligent, composite business processes seamlessly merging analytic, transactional and collaborative steps built on the Business Process Platform (BPP) leveraging SAP and non-SAP components delivering on the Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA) promise".

What makes SAP xApps so interesting is that it brings business process to the users in a preferred format say a web browser or blackberry. Business users get informed about potential issues on a real time basis and can take steps to resolve these issues on a real time basis. Business strategy, KPIs, process metrics etc can all be tied in SAP xapps analytic. Users can see all these in the form of dashboards. You can see a screenshot of how SAP XApps analytics looks like in the screenshot above. The most important point here is that these dashboards are actionable items. Meaning thereby, that an adverse metric in the dashboard can be corrected by the user in real time by taking remediation steps. In context of the business process, xApps analytics represents, best practices and strategies which can be tailored depending upon the needs of the organization.
