Information Modeling in SAP BW Business Warehouse
Information Modeling in SAP BW Business Warehouse
For readers who are new, you can catch up on my posts on basic concepts in SAP BW here and here. Today, I am taking up the topic of information modeling in SAP business warehouse. SAP BW comes with a predefined data model which is flexible enough to be configured as per data stored in the metadata directory. Unlike many data model concepts, SAP BW relies on business level meta data to ensure that data analysis is posssible from a business perspective.
A few examples of metadata objects used in SAP BW would include customers, products, sales organizations, business events like sales and purchases, KPIs, stock values, information providers such as infocubes etc. The entire information modeling process is key to the way SAP is implemented. SAP BW information modeling requires that business processes, relevant entities, KPIs etc be figured out before hand. I'll talk more on the modeling structure in business warehouse in my next post.
