SAP systems are supported through an Online Correction Support OCS service. The OCS consists of tools and standard advance corrections which are called support packages. The support packages are important since they help in eliminating errors in the SAP R/3 systems. Such support packages are released before the new release of the R/3 version. These support patches are installed in SAP through SAP Patch Manager via transaction code SPAM.

The transaction SPAM works on patch queue processing. Using the queue process ensures that correct sequence of patches including application of conflict resolution transports CRT. Through the SAP Patch Manager one can apply more than one patch at a time. In case the SAP system is terminated due to any reason, SPAM allows restart capabilities after failures. Customer modifications and customizations of SAP objects and add-ons are not affected by SPAM t-code. So to apply support packages, SAP Patch Manager SPAM should be used in R/3 client 000 which communicated between OCS and the client.
