How to Create SAP Report Variants and Variables

How to Create SAP Report Variants and Variables

SAP users need to execute reports during their normal course of business. Users need to enter different selection criteria to access the dataset they need. Users need not enter the report selection criteria each time they need to access a report. Here, SAP provides users with the functionality of report variants and report variables. With Variants users can execute a report as many times with different selection criteria with variants. Creating a report variant is really simple and can be done by even a novice user. Steps for creating a report variant are given below:

1. Enter the required selection criteria for the report once.
2. Save the selection criteria as a variant.
3. Execute the report using the variant saved earlier.

Users can define multiple report variants for a single report. The report variants contain different selection criteria. Simply, the variant is just a definition of the report with the selected fields. Report variants are very useful in case of reports which are executed on a frequent basis. A report thus can have different report variants based on the selection criteria defined. Another addition to this concept is selection report variables. Having saved a report variant, the user might still want some selection criteria. This is done through the functionality of report selection variables in SAP.
